How to get your business on Google Maps for free

When someone searches for a service near them, Google shows a map with local businesses. Getting on that map is free. Here’s how.

It’s called a Google Business Profile

The listing you see on Google Maps, with a business’s name, phone number, opening hours, photos and reviews, is a Google Business Profile. It’s free to create and manage.

Step by step

  1. Go to google.com/business and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Enter your business name exactly as you trade.
  3. Choose your category. Pick the one that best describes what you do, such as “Plumber” or “Hair salon”.
  4. Add your location or service area. If customers come to you, add your address. If you travel to them, you can hide your address and list the areas you cover instead.
  5. Add your phone number and website.
  6. Verify your business. Google will ask you to prove the business is real. The method varies, so follow the instructions you’re given.

Make it work harder

  • Fill in everything: opening hours, services and a clear description.
  • Add photos of your work, your premises or your van.
  • Ask happy customers for reviews and reply to them.
  • Keep it up to date, especially opening hours around bank holidays.

Where a website fits in

Your profile and your website work together. The profile gets you on the map. The website gives customers the detail they need to choose you, and gives Google more information about what you do.

If that all sounds like a job for another day, we can do it for you. Google Business Profile setup is included in our Business plan.
