How to ask customers for Google reviews (with a message you can copy)

Reviews are the first thing new customers look at. Most happy customers will leave one if you ask at the right moment and make it easy.

Ask at the right moment

The best time is straight after the job, when the customer is pleased with the result. Leave it a fortnight and the moment has passed.

Make it one tap

In your Google Business Profile there’s an option to get a link for customers to leave a review. Copy that link and save it on your phone, so you can send it by text or WhatsApp in seconds.

A message you can copy

“Hi [name], thanks again for choosing us. If you were happy with the work, would you mind leaving a quick Google review? It really helps a small business like ours. Here’s the link: [your link]. Thanks, [your name]”

Do

  • Ask every happy customer, not just a few.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and briefly.
  • Mention reviews on your invoice or your follow-up text.

Don’t

  • Don’t offer discounts or gifts for reviews. It’s against Google’s rules.
  • Don’t write your own or ask friends to pretend. Fake reviews are illegal in the UK and can get your profile removed.
  • Don’t panic about one bad review. A calm, helpful reply often impresses people more than a perfect score.

Once you have a few, show them off. Every site we build has room for your best reviews. Here’s how to set up your Google Business Profile if you haven’t yet.
